NEW FINDINGS ON CHILDHOOD ASTHMA

Asthma is the most common chronic childhood illness.  More than 5 million children under the age of 18 are affected in the U.S. today.  Asthma is the number one cause of hospitalization in American and Australian children.  Its prevalence is on the rise in both countries.  Wendy Oddy MPH, at the TVW Telethon Institute for Child Health in West Perth, Western Australia, found that compared to exclusively breast-fed children during the first four months of life, those not breast-fed exclusively during the same period were 27% more likely to have doctor-diagnosed asthma by age six.  Although chiropractic care is not a treatment for asthma, parents report daily that children with this condition respond very favorably to chiropractic adjustments. Chiropractic care allows the body’s normal restorative abilities of health and healing prevail.  When more children are exposed to the chiropractic lifestyle – including breast-feeding and proper nutrition – the health of children every- where will improve.

PILLS FOR KIDS SOUND ALARM BELLS IN SUBURBS

A major problem in this country is attention deficit disorder – ADD or ADHD, the official acronym that denotes the “hyperactivity” so long associated with this condition.  Many children are known as “ADD kids” and take Ritalin, a stimulant that

affects the central nervous system the way amphetamines do.  The U.S. uses 90% of the world’s supply, and production is up to 700% since 1991.  About 75% of the drugs go to children.  Nearly 5 million children and adults are diagnosed with ADD.  Some experts say 10% of our kids have it.  If they all took Ritalin, 1 in 6 boys ages 5-12 would use the drug.  The quest for disability rights, accommodations or a legal defense has changed ADD from a stigma to a potentially “desired” diagnosis.

DESTROY ALL SMALLPOX VACCINES

Two top scientists are calling for immediate destruction of the world’s remaining supply of smallpox virus because they fear that it could fall into terrorists’ hands.  In the New England Journal of Medicine, physicians Joel Breman of the National Institutes of Health and D.A. Henderson of Johns Hopkins University urge the World Health Organization (WHO) to “call on all countries to destroy immediately all stocks of variola (smallpox) virus.  The last case of naturally acquired smallpox, a fiercely infectious and often flu-like disease, occurred in October 1977.  WHO declared global eradication in 1980, and routine vaccination stopped.

“Make your child’s first spinal exam as important as their first visit to the dentist.”
